Celebrating Andrew’s Achievement – Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award!
We’re so proud to share that our client, Andrew, has achieved his Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award at his school! This is a brilliant accomplishment that reflects Andrew’s hard work, commitment, and determination to take on new challenges and make a difference in his school community.
The DofE Award encourages young people to develop new skills, stay active, and give back to their community. Andrew has done all of that with the help and encouragement of his fantastic support workers from Blue Skies Case Management & Care.
A special thank you to Claremont School
Andrew’s Mother asked us to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff at Claremont School. Without their support, this achievement would not have been possible. They organised everything, put in many extra hours after school, and made sure Andrew and the other students completed the often challenging tasks needed to gain the award. We’re really grateful for their commitment and care.
Skills: Signing and Singing Leader
For his skills section, Andrew led a signing and singing group for younger students, helping them build confidence and communication through music. He directed the movements for songs like “The Wheels on the Bus” and chose animals and colours for “I Can Sing a Rainbow” and “Old MacDonald.” Using his Voca device, he greeted, encouraged, and chatted with the group, showing wonderful leadership and creativity.
His support workers were there to encourage him along the way, helping him plan sessions and giving him the confidence to take the lead, which he did brilliantly!
Physical: Keeping Active with Sports
For his physical challenge, Andrew worked hard to stay active and build strength, taking part in a variety of sports. He joined activities with the Bristol Bears and took part in boccia, basketball, dodgeball, rugby, yoga, and athletics.
Andrew focused on learning to control his movements and use his body with more confidence, and his support team were there to cheer him on and make sure he had the right opportunities to shine.
Volunteering: Leading the Way at School
Andrew also gave his time as a School Council Leader, encouraging other students to share their ideas and have their say in school life. He met with the Headteacher to give feedback, helped plan school events, and supported fundraising for Comic Relief and Children in Need. He even helped organise raffles and promoted recycling initiatives.
With guidance and encouragement from his support workers, Andrew embraced every opportunity to make a difference, showing real leadership and care for his school community.
A Team Effort to Be Proud Of
Andrew’s success is a fantastic example of how teamwork and person-centred support can make a huge difference. With the encouragement of his Blue Skies Case Management & Care team, Andrew has built confidence, developed new skills, and achieved something truly special.
We’re all incredibly proud of Andrew, and of his dedicated support workers, who go above and beyond every day to help clients reach their goals. Congratulations, Andrew, you’ve earned it!
